ARR Group Rides

Riding is safer and more fun with friends!

Get more (s)miles, progress faster, and learn the trails around Austin together with Austin Ridge Riders. Our ride program offers options all year long at multiple trail locations with dedicated ride leaders for each skill level to bring you up to speed or keep you there.

Sunday Rides will be canceled if trail conditions are wet or any Special Event falls on that day. Please RSVP to receive important event details and email alerts for any changes or cancellations. If you are interested in being a group ride leader, please click here.

Sunday Group Ride

All mountain bikers are welcome to join our FREE weekly rides every Sunday morning in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, with an alternate location chosen for the first Sunday of each month. Riders break into groups based on ability and pace. Rides are designed to be fun for all skill levels - from beginner to advanced - with dedicated ride leaders to show you the way and keep everything safe!

This is for all levels of adult riders 18 years and older. Under 18 years old may join only if accompanied by a Parent/Guardian at all times during the ride. We break into groups according to ability. Beginners are welcome, and we will not drop riders.

Please RSVP to receive important event details and email alerts for any changes or cancellations.

Monthly Group Rides

Each month we pick a destination outside of our usual weekly ride venues and typically outside the city limits, from Dana Peak to Reimers Ranch and everywhere in between. These rides occur on Saturday and we bring a post ride lunch so we ask that everyone who plans to attend please RSVP.

Austin Ridge Riders monthly group rides are no- drop rides that cater to riders of all skill levels, beginner to advanced. Each month we pick a destination outside of our usual weekly ride venues and typically outside the city limits, from Dana Peak to Reimers Ranch and everywhere in between. For these events we require a headcount for the provided lunch so please RSVP no later than the Thursday preceding the ride. Lunch will be provided (vegan option available) after the ride, please feel free to BYOB! A folding chair is recommended for the post ride hang-out.

Please RSVP for lunch, and to receive important event details and email alerts for any changes or cancellations.

ARR Thanks our monthly ride lunch sponsor, Brooks Lawson!

Advanced and Intermediate Rides

When you are ready to challenge yourself on more technical terrain with greater elevation, join us for an advanced and intermediate level ride! We visit locations like Emma Long and Mount Lakeway, and encourage you to BYOB, a grill and a chair, and something for lunch for the post ride hang out! This is for Advanced and Intermediate level adults 18 years and older. This ride is not recommended for beginners.

Please RSVP to receive important event details and email alerts for any changes or cancellations.

Ride Like A Girl

Our Ride Like A Girl Program (RLAG) hosts women-only rides that are focused on fun and skill development. RLAG meets every Monday in the summer, unless it rains.

Skils Clinics

Riders have been asking and we are excited to now have offer skills clinics exclusively for ARR Members! You’ll learn foundational riding skills that serve as building blocks for more advanced progress on more challenging terrain. Learn correct body positioning on the bike, effectively use your brakes, take switchbacks with control.

Renee, Rose, Lara, Stephanie, Whitney and Abel have completed the BICP Fundamentals Ride Instructor clinic and are excited to share training with our members. In order for participants to get the most out of this opportunity we have limited attendance to 15 riders. You can see upcoming dates below…

About Skill Levels

Before each ride we will break up into multiple groups based on ability and pace and start in the following order:

Beginner: New riders with little or no experience who are stoked to learn shifting, braking, and body position skills on the bike.
4-6 Miles, 4-5 MPH pace, frequent stops to practice skills or discuss trail etiquette.

Intermediate 1: Riders who can handle smooth trails but may hesitate or walk the bike over small rocks, logs, roots, or steep sections. Skills practiced: shifting, braking, body position on climbs, descents, and over rocks and roots.
8-10 miles, 6-8 mph pace, more stops than Intermediate 2.

Intermediate 2: Riders who can handle varying, somewhat technical terrain over small rocks, roots, and logs, but are not yet proficient or consistent. Skills practiced: shifting, braking, body position on climbs, descents, and over rocks and roots, small wheel lifts, small drops, and bike control for climbing and descending.
10-12 miles, 8-9mph pace, more stops than Intermediate 3.

Intermediate 3: Riders who are comfortable over varying and technical terrain, medium to large rocks. roots, logs, and successive drops. Skills practiced: shifting, braking, body position on climbs, descents, ledges, and over rocks and roots, front/rear wheel lifts, and bike control for climbing and descending, fast cornering, switchbacks, and endurance.
12-15 miles, 9-10 pace, more stops than Advanced.

Advanced: Riders who are proficient over varying and technical terrain, medium to large rocks. roots, logs, and successive drops. Skills practiced: shifting, braking, body position on climbs, descents, ledges, and over rocks and roots, front/rear wheel lifts, and bike control for climbing and descending, fast cornering, switchbacks, and endurance.
15-20 miles, 9-10mph pace, minimal stops.

If you are not sure of your pace you can go with a faster group and then wait for next group coming up on the trail should you need to drop back.

Meet Our Ride Leaders

Our ride leaders and sweeps make our group rides awesome! They meet each year to brush up on their training so that when you join us for a ride you won’t feel left out - or get left behind!

Are you interested in helping us lead or sweep a group? As we continue to grow we need more folks to keep our group sizes smaller and more organized. If you would like to become a ride leader please click here.
