ARR Board Pursuing City Council Outreach on Behalf of Mountain Biking

On April 3, 2025, Austin Ridge Riders Directors Charlie Riou (President), Cullen McMorrow (VP), and Renee Mocha (Secretary), met with Council Member District 7 Mike Siegel's office to introduce our organization. We discussed Weekly Rides and Ride Like a Girl, Volunteer Trail Maintenance at Walnut Creek and other parks and jurisdictions, Trail Etiquette, other organizations we collaborate with, Austin Parks Foundation “It's My Park Day” events, Safe Routes to School, Pump Tracks/Trails/Skills Parks at Schools, and bond funding for Bolm District Park and NW District Park bicycle playground.

On March 17th Cullen McMorrow organized a coffee meeting with City Council Member José Velásquez, District 3, to show support for the bike park facilities that were included in the vision plan for Bolm District Park. In attendance were Derek Hansen (Ghisallo Cycling Initiative), Bobby Sandoval (Marshall Middle School Bike Club Leader) and Lalo Estrada (ARR Trail Steward, Mary Moore Searight Park). We want to help make sure the park is at the top of City priority lists for bond funding, and although unable to make timeline promises, Mr. Velásquez assured us he was aware of the Bolm plans and is very supportive of getting the park funded for the design and buildout!

Even when these meetings don't have an immediate direct result, it's important to establish these connections for the future!

Cullen McMorrow

Cullen grew up in Barton Hills riding mountain bikes in the Barton Creek Greenbelt, skateboarding, and riding BMX. He went to UT Austin and continued to ride BMX, building ramps and dirt jumps. He began mountain biking again in 2005 and has volunteered regularly with the Club since then. Cullen is a big fan of the "Flow Country" concept of trail building; where flow features and obstacle features are mixed into regular trails. Cullen travels to ride both cross country and downhill MTB whenever possible. In addition to serving as the Trails Program Director, he’s the Trail Steward for Walnut Creek Metro Park. Cullen is committed to building trails and features for a range of skill levels, supporting trail stewards, and growing the success of the ARR.
