September 2024 Updates
Please, now that it is officially Fall, could the temperatures begin to… fall?
RLAG SEASON CLOSER
We wrapped up this years Ride Like A Girl season with a ride and potluck at Georgetown Trails earlier this month but plenty of RLAG regulars will be organizing unofficial off-season rides via The Hub on Facebook, so if you are looking to stay connected and keep the miles coming, then this is where you need to be! Thanks so much to Lara Bridges for organizing and leading our RLAG program, and to all the riders who joined us this summer!
MOVIE NIGHT
Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket to our movie night at AFS Cinema! We hosted a premiere of Anytime presented by Shimano and raised over $1500 to support ARR. These funds will help with our operating expenses and tools for trail workdays. We also sold a bunch of limited edition ARR x Shimano “Trail Born” tee shirts - and if you missed out, we still have some available to purchase via our store. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these shirts go to ARR.
Anytime was an excellent film with stellar cinematography that looked impressive on the big screen, where the scale of pro level freeride really becomes clear. In just 60 minutes we visit Chile, Mexico, Oregon, California, Utah, and Switzerland, and we get to know 15 of the worlds best freeride athletes. This was co creation between Anthill Films and Red Bull Media House. It is now available to watch for free on Red Bull TV.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
Our group rides have been getting popular - we averaging close to 100 riders each weekend - and we are excited to say that translates to a growing membership! Last month we welcomed 20 new members to the club. Thank you to the following new members:
Jason and Tracy Barber, Jason Barnhart, Rob Beals, Nikita Borodikhin, Eric Cappleman, Kevin Cooksey, Bret Darter, Doug Farrell, Reagan Knowles, William Marcial, Joshua Mesclier, David, Jake, Lisa, and Zac Powell, Brittany Royal, Tim Spang, Bella Staal, and Ron Van Asperen
Your membership helps us build great trails, and a great community; plus, you can get discounts on outdoor and riding gear! Learn more about becoming an ARR member here.
CIRCLE C CAPP
ARR has submitted a Community Activated Parks Proposal for Circle C Metro Park in Southwest Austin. This region is home to about thirteen miles of natural surface trails winding along Slaughter Creek, past the Veloway and the Violet Crown Trail and, if approved, this proposal will allow ARR to begin organizing official workdays to improve the single track in this park.
The scope of this initial request includes essential maintenance like removing punji sticks, clearing sightlines, repairing the trail surface, creating drainage and adding in-sloped corners or grade reversals as needed to reduce erosion.
The CAPP application is the first step in this process and while we are hopeful that our plan will be approved, there is no guarantee.
Bicycle Advisory Council
Finally, we just wanted to give heads up that the city is looking for new members for the Bicycle Advisory Council! You can apply here, and the last day to do so is September 29th!
The Bicycle Advisory Council (BAC) advises the City of Austin on planning, policy, design, funding, education and enforcement efforts regarding the creation, maintenance and operation of bicycle facilities. The BAC is composed of 9 full (voting) members and 10 alternate (non-voting) members. Their monthly meeting agendas typically consist of briefings, discussion/approval of recommendations to local agencies, and community announcements. The BAC meets in person at City Hall - 301 W. 2nd Street in downtown Austin - as well as virtually via WebEx. Please visit the BAC’s website to view their bylaws, past meeting materials, etc: austintexas.gov/department/bicycle-advisory-council.
